This project addresses the possibility of reusing Gigurtu Mansion, a 200 years old building, through rehabilitation and conversion. The conversion aims to involve the public, to exploit the natural landscape and to bring back to life, in a modern way, the local old customs. Thus, the idea was to create a space for carpentry research through workshops that can also be open to proms, festivals, conferences and presentations.
The proposed functions have roots from all the life phases of the mansion:
residence > public occasional accommodation
primary school> workshop
offices > spaces for conferences and exhibitions.
The emphasis is on restoring the exterior facades, thus creating a separate exterior “box” that is highlighting the time stamp on the building and also the various functions from the interior space.
The white color at the interior is used to contrast the existing old walls and finishings, similar to the idea of an exhibition object on a white background.
